GPL is still the grandad of all racing sims, plain and simple. Yes it's old, but it's still absolutely brilliant.

Quote from CSU1 :Yes, there are a lot of good English speaking little sim people's around here, but the part I find most amusing is the difference in the way different people use slang or the way another might think they are talking about something else lol' like that Canadian guy who has "I LOVE THE RING" plastered all over his avetar lmao

Okay, would someone please explain why this is funny? I don't get it, other than maybe a reference to the birth control method.

Quote from sgt.flippy :Question numbero uno: why disable fast user switching, if there isn't another account, just to make the comp a bit faster or am I missing something?
Two: How do you hard boot a computer? (Just wanna know, don't use it, don't have a computer to use it on either )

Disabling fast user switching allows you to lock the computer. This doesn't allow the computer to be used at all, it looks like a logon screen, but only the person that locked it can log on.
You hard boot a computer by unplugging it, holding the power button, or hitting the reset switch

Quote from Eric Tetz :Perhaps you need a better GPU? The cars in GTR with all details cranked to max are astonishing, IMO.

Yes, I do, I have a Radeon 9550, my whole rig needs upgrading. But my point is that, on my computer at least, GTR looks worse than LFS and has lower framerates

I really do have to compliment the English of many of our non English speakers on this forum. I find myself forgetting that these users don't speak English normally, and are actually speaking their second language. I also find it quite apalling how bad the English of many native English speakers (British and Americans both) is on here. It's actually quite sad. Mostly it's stupid mistakes that could be spotted and fixed if the user took the two seconds to go back and reread their post before hitting submit...

I really tried hard to like GTR2. It caught my eye at best buy, and I thought I'd give it a try for real.

First off, I have no idea why it has to be so huge, to me, there doesn't seem to be enough content to justify several gigabytes on my hard drive and 3 CDs to install.

The menus I don't mind particularly, they're somewhat complicated, but not too difficult. They could be much more intuitive however.

Now for the actual game, I really want to like it, but I feel so disconnected from the car I can hardly drive it. I've tried different physics mods, changed the Force Feedback, tried different tire curves, and it still feels like my car is in no way connected to the track. I can't get over the canned understeer effect, it honestly confuses me every time I get into an understeer situation.

I don't mind the sounds, they do sound very nice, but after a couple laps, I start missing the synthesized sounds from LFS, GTR2 sounds like the same recording being played over and over again. I do really like having some gearwhine though, and the pebbles hitting the bottom of the car is a nice touch.

Visuals wise, I don't see what all the hype is about. To me, neither the cars nor the tracks look all that great. I don't know what it is with the cars, but they don't seem to have any visual weight to them. They look like paper cutouts with textures driving around the track to be honest. The tracks are decent, but nothing spectacular. I'd take Aston over any of then any day. Finally about the graphics, I don't know what it is, but it totally kills my computer, I really don't think it looks good enough to justify the framerate that it has.

It seems to me like SimBin is really trying to make a realistic sim, but they can't. GTR2 doesn't need an update, the physics engine needs to be scrapped and completely recoded. I actually think Sports Car GT feels more realistic...

Part 1

1) Have you developed a remote configuration utility for LFS?
Nope
2) List any remote configuration utilities for LFS that you actively use.
None
3) List any other remote configuration utilities for LFS, that you currently know of.
Dedilink

Part 2

4) Would you be interested in using a web user interface to remotely configure an LFS server?
Uh, sure, sounds kinda neat
5a) Do you regularly host an LFS server?
Nope

The rest of Part 2 is directed at current hosters. If your answer to 5a was NO, please skip the rest of Part 2.

5b) If yes, do you use a hosting service or your own computer for hosting?
6a) If you use a hosting service, list any scripting and database technologies they support.
6b) If you do NOT use a hosting service, list any scripting and database technologies you currently use on your
computer.

On a scale from 1 - 5 where 1 is the least and 5 is the most useful, how useful would it be for you to be able to

7a) save a configuration to file on a script server (which is not your LFS server)?
3
7b) an LFS server?
3
8a) view a configuration file on a script server (which is not your LFS server?
3
8b) an LFS server?
3
9) store and retrieve configurations, or templates of ~, to/from a database?
3
10) apply a configuration "directly" (i.e. without making a file for it) to an online server?
5
Part 3

11) If there was any information about an online server you would like to know before changing its configuration,
what would it be (complete configuration information is not possible to obtain)?
If this is for normal clients, there should be some set boundries of what they can and can't do
12) Any other relevant comments, suggestions, ideas or critique?

Is this your computer or the family computer? If it's yours, disable the guest account, password protect the administrator account, disable fast user switching, and press crtl+alt+del then enter whenever you get up. Although, someone can still hard boot your computer while it's locked, if they don't have an account, they can't get on.

If it's the family computer, I'd agree with Becky and run LFS from a flashdrive.

I voted for using them occasionally, but I misread the poll, I thought it said Ctrl+F1-F5, which I do use sometimes. I've never used Alt+F1-F5 though, and I wouldn't miss them if they left.

I found his response quite interesting. I know most of it, but I thought he explained it very well, it wasn't too long. Also, I don't see anywhere that would imply he's talking about bike tires...

just a dimming of the rest of the screen, with a circle around the cars that is normal brightness would do the trick I think

I started racing in September 2003, and I'm still at best a midpack runner. This being said, I only have 15127Km driven, so I don't play very much. Even with as little miles as I have, I'm still pretty quick on some combos, I'm fairly good on Aston Club, no matter what the car, and I love SO1, even though I'm not quite as quick there.

Everyone is always improving, so it's taken however long they've been playing to get where they are

Alright, to continue this threadjack, I'd now like to apologize to CSU1 and anyone that I may have offended with my post. I wasn't really in a bad mood last night, but it was fairly late, and I over reacted. Thank you for owning up to your actions publicly, even if you didn't have to. You did the right thing I'm very sorry for jumping down your throat.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know me very well, (which I assume is most of you,) I despise alcohol and the effect it has on otherwise good, reasonable people. I can only assume that this was part of my response last night.

I believe this calls for a group hug :grouphug: and a round (of soda ) for everyone

as crazy as that car is, cars like that aren't all that uncommon here in the U.S.

Ok, so maybe most of them don't have 2000hp, but there are plenty of 900+ horsepower mid '50s Chevrolets running around

Still be a fun car to have though

Quote from CSU1 :Ok, sorry for thread jacking BigDave, I didn't want to duplicate "Public Apology" thread,
I'd like to add something to this thread, if I may:

On Friday 20th last I insulted some of our forum members
under the name Yoink, on what topics I can't remember
as I had too much drink that day.

SamH(I hope) has agreed not to issue a ban for my idiotic carry on,
so to the members of forum involved you have
my upmost apology and it wont happen again.

No, very much to the contrary, I believe this deserves its own thread, and maybe a PM or two. Drunk or not, it is not the way to act. It's pretty spineless to apologize in here, if you want to apologize and are genuinely serious about it, you'd want as many people to see it as possible. I'm not a moderator, but if I was, you'd be banned. That's no way to act on a forum, and reflects negatively on the community as a whole.

I'm sorry to sound so angry, but I was fairly enraged with "yoink's" behavior.

Thank you.

I've shifted without the clutch before, and it isn't too hard. This being said, I've certainly mis-shifted and ground the gears. It's not hard to do clutchless shifts, but if you aren't trying to do it, and let the clutch out before actually shifting, you get a pretty awful grinding noise. Also, shifting into reverse while the car is slightly rolling usually makes a grinding noise too.

Wasn't a bad video. Drifting wasn't half bad in my opinion. You should probably turn off the HUD next time though.
